  • I remember a childhood friend’s parents commenting,“She has a big imagination that Sheila!” The Croglin series pays homage to that statement as an exploration back to my childhood and a journey through time to validate that “big imagination”.

The farm was indeed remarkable. Buildings that were no longer used were falling back into the ground. Paddocks were growing wild with weeds and yards were littered with the rusty detritus of daily faming life through the years. But in amongst the raging chaos were simple signs of care and attention to detail. From the barn filled with well- bred Hereford cows, an impressive if a little terrifying bull, to the pots of weeds promising to be summer flowers. The “Horseshoes” window faced out onto all of this with its offer of protection and welcoming in good fortune to all that toiled the farm and lived within.

As a six-year-old,I had no better start to cultivate my imagination. As an artist and printmaker, the exploration of ideas present and past is central to the development of my images.
